What is Happening to Alert Central?

SolarWinds announced recently the End-of-Life of their Alert Central (AC) product. If you are currently using Alert Central, what does this mean for you? To begin with, no one is taking away Alert Central. Since it’s a free product, there is no licensing, or code, that will turn off, or stop working. Still, we at OpsGenie have decided to ensure that existing Alert Central customers will be taken care of. We are aware that many customers are using a free AC product today and don’t necessarily have the budget to buy a replacement solution. Therefore, we have agreed to offer a special FREE tier for existing SolarWinds Alert Central users. For anyone unfamiliar with OpsGenie, we are a SaaS IT alert management software solution.

How do I migrate my configuration from Alert Central to OpsGenie?

Due to the differences in how the systems function, consume and process information, the fact that SolarWinds Alert Central does not have an API interface and underlying differences in capability and functionality, it is not possible to automatically migrate your configuration from SolarWinds Alert Central to OpsGenie. Fortunately, however, given the way OpsGenie works, it requires minimal effort to configure OpsGenie to have your core functionality replicated and be up and working. You will be expected to configure (in OpsGenie) the SolarWinds NPM Integration, and configure your SolarWinds environment. For more information click here.

I was using Active Directory for user Import. How will this work in OpsGenie?

In OpsGenie, you can:

  • Create Users directly from within the UI for more details .
  • Leverage OpsGenie’s User API to create Users.
  • Leverage OpsGenie’s SSO capability (available at the Enterprise Tier).

NOTE: As a part of this program, and due to the differences with how users are managed in the two systems, there is no migration utility to automatically create your existing users in OpsGenie from either SolarWinds Alert Central or repositories like Active Directory.

How many Users, Integrations, and Features am I allowed to use in OpsGenie?

OpsGenie provides a Tiered level of service:

  1. For SolarWinds Alert Central customers, there are two default plans: A Lite plan & A Pro plan.
  2. Refer to the FAQ on OpsGenie's Pricing Plans for specific details regarding features and pricing for the SolarWinds plans.
  3. Refer to OpsGenie pricing for additional information.

Why OpsGenie?

OpsGenie is a cloud-based (Saas) IT alert and incident management software solution for development and operations teams. We at OpsGenie believe that we have a more complete solution than what is available within Alert Central today. In fact, SolarWinds found our platform to be so comprehensive, robust and extremely flexible, that they recently moved their IT Ops team to the OpsGenie platform. The previous SolarWinds product certainly had many fans, but both SolarWinds and OpsGenie wanted to make sure that their customers currently using AC had the right long-term solution.

I was using the SolarWinds NPM Integration for receiving Alerts, how will things now work in OpsGenie?

OpsGenie has over 100+ Integrations out-of-the-box - including one with SolarWinds NPM. However, access to specific Integrations will be governed by the type of OpsGenie pricing plan you choose. There are two default pricing plans offered by OpsGenie to Alert Central customers. However, additional OpsGenie pricing plans are available should you choose to expand beyond the SolarWinds Alert Central capability.
